1. Introduction to Financial Accounting by the Wharton School - Coursera

Created in partnership with the prestigious Wharton School in the University of Pennsylvania, this course offers a great refresher for accountants on the basics of financial accounting. On the other hand, non-accountant financial professionals will find this course useful as a solid introductory course in accounting.

The course requires 4 weeks of study, and it is recommended that you dedicate 5-6 hours per week to cope with the schedule. Participants are also required to pass all the graded assignment to complete this course.

2. Saylor Academy’s Business Administration Catalog

While not linked to any traditional educational institution, Saylor Academy is one of the world’s oldest and leading alternative education and accreditation systems. Saylor’s course catalog contains more than 300 college-level courses in fields ranging from arts, business, history, natural sciences, social sciences, and other soft skills.

The business administration catalog is composed of courses on business fundamentals, accounting, finance, marketing, communication, and business management. The courses vary in length but they can be taken at your own pace. The system includes assessment methods such as quizzes and additional resources that enhance the participant’s understanding of the course.

3. Blockchain for Business – An Introduction to Hyperledger Technologies by The Linux Foundation - edX

4. Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Excel by Microsoft - edX

5. ACCA Accounting MOOCs - edX

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in partnership with edX provides one of the best structure of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) offerings for accountants. ACCA’s list of courses cover the basics of financial accounting, bookkeeping, and even advanced lessons in management and the roles of accountants in business.

The courses vary in length in terms of week, while participants are encouraged to dedicate 4-5 hours per week to fully understand the topics. Each course, like the others on this list, has assessment tools in the form of quizzes to guide you in identifying the areas of the subject that you need to study more.

Learning through the internet is fun and comfortable. You just have to keep your motivation up since you may get easily distracted by other activities while taking up these free accounting courses.
